The thing that always shouts "Ami" to me is sweats - sweatshirts (usually with the name of a college or fraternity on it), even sweat pants, and of course sneakers with everything - and not the cool, laid-back vintage adidas ones but the ones that actually look like they were meant for track and field but were never used for that and kept gleaming white instead. Also agree about the basecaps, just don't do it. The same is true for souvenir pins. Jeans and a tee are fine, so are khakis and a shirt or a sweater. But most importantly: Enjoy your trip!
