Yes it does!
The Spanish invitation letter is an official document that must be obtained through the Spanish Government which states that a Spaniard or a Spanish resident assumes full responsibility for your stay in Spain and that he/she would bear all costs arising to the Spanish Government in case of illegal behaviour of the visitor.
